playing cds using headphones

Hi all. I used to be able to plug my headphones into the headphone jack on my cd drive and hear the cd through the headphones. But that no longer works. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Not sure how to fix that, but, does your cd player play through the sound card?

My cds play through the sound card when I put them in the computer cd drive. I have never hooked up an external cd player to the computer.
